Description

This CD-ROM contains nearly 1,400 quality, detailed, and well-organized photos documenting a nearly-completed Pitts S1-D. The photos were taken at Steen Aero Lab’s shop in October 2002. The aircraft is a Pitts S1-D (identical to the S1-C except that it has four ailerons) built by Steen for delivery to a customer. The plane is built to the updated Pitts S-1 Plans (“CAD Plans”) and is mostly stock, except for having spring landing gear instead of bungee gear. The fuselage is the same one used on all modern-day Pitts Specials (often referred to as the “long” or “S1-S” fuselage).

This CD-ROM is a great way for you to see a typical example of how the Pitts Special is built… which is very similar to the construction methods used by the Skybolt, Model 14, and a great many other tube/fabric/wood aircraft.

The photos are in JPEG (.JPG) format and are viewable on all Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

BONUS FEATURES:

The CD also includes basic documentation and helpful hints to help you get the most out of it. It includes ZIP files of the entire content of the CD, to enable you to easily copy the contents to your PC’s hard drive without the difficulties inherent in copying files from a CD-ROM (WinZIP, PKZip, or a similar program is required… available from third party vendors).

NOTE ON VIEWING THE IMAGES:

While virtually all computer systems have built-in software that can view the JPG files on this CD-ROM, due to the very large number of photos included in this collection, we strongly recommend that you obtain third-party software designed specifically for the purpose of efficiently sorting through large collections of images. Our preferred application is ACDSee which can be purchased for a reasonable cost. Typically, these programs will allow you to scan quickly through all the images, which are presented as a list of thumbnails, while showing a selected full image in the same window.

There are many other similar applications available as well. A good (and safe) website to download trials of freeware/shareware/commercial applications such as this is Tucows.

Please note that image viewing software is provided by third-party vendors not associated with Steen Aero Lab. Steen cannot guarantee that any software you try will be safe or appropriate for your use, and we cannot provide technical support for any computer software! Please consult with the software vendor for details on the suitability of any software.
