Description

The Kestrel 2500 Pocket Weather Meter is a convenient, easy-to-use mid-range handheld device that accurately measures a wide range of weather information no matter where you are. A notch above meters that only measure wind and/or temperature, this durable unit can measure and calculate conditions including:

  • Current Wind Speed
  • Maximum Wind Gust
  • Average Wind Speed
  • Air, Water & Snow Temperature
  • Wind Chill
  • Barometric Pressure
  • Altitude

The sensitive wind impeller can measure winds from a barely-noticeable draft up through a major hurricane, and can be replaced in the field without tools if necessary. The external thermistor (electronic temperature sensor) is designed for quick response to temperature changes and the unit contains an accurate and sensitive barometric pressure sensor as well. The Kestrel 2500 can help you forecast the weather with the pressure trend indicator function.

Other features of the Kestrel 2500 include:

  • Real-time clock
  • Protective cover with sure-grip overmolding
  • Data hold function
  • Large easy-to-read display with backlight
  • Unit is waterproof and floats
  • Lanyard included
  • Battery (1 x CR2032) included
  • Battery life: ±300 hours (depending on backlight usage)

You can also purchase a carrying case and a tripod to allow hands-free operation (both items are available in separate listings). This unit carries a two year manufacturer warranty and all components and accessories are assembled completely in the USA.

Looking for more advanced capabilities (such as Relative Humidity, Dewpoint, Heat Stress Index, Wet Bulb Temperature, and Density Altitude) or do you want the ability to record stored data to a computer? These are available on the Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Tracker (available in a separate listing).

1 inch diameter impeller with precision axle and sapphire bearings. Off-axis accuracy -1% @ 5° off-axis; -2% @ 10°; -3% @ 15°. Calibration drift <1% after 100 hours of use at 16 MPH / 7 m/s. Sustained operation above 60 MPH / 27 m/s will wear impeller rapidly and may cause destruction of impeller. Replacement impeller (NK PN-0801) may be field-installed without tools (US Patent 5,783,753).

°C -45.0 to 125.0 °C 0.1 1.0 °C -29.0 to 70.0 °C
Measures air, water and snow temperature. Thermally isolated, hermetically sealed, precision thermistor mounted externally (US Patent 5,939,645). Calibration drift negligible.
Relative Humidity 1 minute %RH 0.0 to 100.0 % 0.1 3.0 %RH 5.0 to 95.0 % non-condensing
Polymer capacitive humidity sensor mounted in thin-walled chamber external to case for rapid, accurate response (US Patent 6,257,074). (To achieve stated relative humidity accuracy, unit must be permitted to equilibrate to external temperature when exposed to large, rapid temperature changes and must be kept out of direct sunlight.) Calibration drift ±2% over 24 months. Relative humidity may be recalibrated at factory or in field using Kestrel Humidity Calibration Kit (NK PN-0802).
Barometric Pressure 1 second inHg 8.86 to 32.48 inHg 0.01 0.05 inHg At 77.0 °F, Below 19,700 ft
hPa 300.0 to 1100.0 hPa 0.1 1.5 hPa At 25.0 °C, Below 6,000 m
Monolithic silicon piezoresistive pressure sensor with second-order temperature correction. Maximum error beyond specified temperature, ± 0.09 inHg / 3.0 hPa. Calibration drift typically -0.03 inHg / -1.0 hPa per year. Pressure sensor may be recalibrated at factory or in field.

Calculated from the primary measurements of wind speed and temperature. Utilizes the NWS Wind Chill Temperature (WCT) Index, revised 2001, with wind speed adjusted by a factor of 1.5 to yield equivalent results to wind speed measured at 10 m above ground. (Specification temperature limits established by WCT Tables.)
